In early 2020, OnePlus decided to break away from their “flagship-killer” mantra and make their own flagship lineups instead by delivering the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. The OnePlus 8 Pro is the more advanced mobile phone the brand ever made but it also comes at a flagship-level pricetag. The OnePlus 8 lineup shook its fan base quite a bit as they never expected to pay a high price for a top-tier flagship, they just want a mid-high range device that doesn’t break their bank. However, its prices are still lower than many other brands in Singapore.
However, OnePlus once again return to be the “Flagship Killer” by introducing the OnePlus Nord, later in 2020 including Singapore. The Nord is an all-rounder mid-range mobile phone which just a step away from being labeled a flagship. This latest phone by OnePlus is an emphatic return that clearly states that they can compete in all fields which the top dogs in Singapore.
OnePlus 7 Pro is an upgrade over its predecessor – the OnePlus 7. The OnePlus 7 Pro completely overshadows the OnePlus 7 in many ways. The OnePlus 7 Pro is the very first “Pro” model in OnePlus’s uprising. The mobile phone not only has a huge screen, but it also features a whopping 90Hz screen refresh rate. It is also a bezel-less device which means the screen is unblemished by any selfie camera notches, punch-holes, and the likes. The selfie camera is instead hidden behind the display using a squarish pop-up camera module.
The hardware on the phone is also top-tier during its prime and even a few years after. The unobstructed 6.67-inch screen is not only huge, but it is also fluidly smoother than most other flagships. The mobile phone uses a display technology that OnePlus called “Fluid AMOLED” which features a 90Hz refresh rate that provides a smoother gaming and scrolling experience compared to other phones. On the outset, the OnePlus 7 Pro is arguably similar to the Samsung Galaxy S10 – sans the camera notch and adding on few inches higher. The back camera array features a triple-camera setup which consists of a 48MP wide camera, a 16MP ultrawide, and an 8MP telephoto snapper which provides up to 3x optical zoom. Under the hood, you will find a Snapdragon 855 which is powered by a 4000mAh battery. There’s an 8GB RAM variant and 12GB RAM variant for you to choose from but 8GB RAM should cater to most user’s daily routines. The warp charger that comes with the phone is also crucial when traveling since you can achieve a 0% to 90% under an hour charging speed but it only works best with the Warp Charge Adapter.
OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro ( launched on 14 April 2020 ) is the brand’s latest flagship phones. The new devices boast powerful hardware and great camera setups all in one. However, it also has a flagship’s hefty high price tag. Up till the OnePlus 7T Pro, OnePlus has to cut some corners on its products so that it hits the sweet spot for being an “Affordable Flagship” – but its not the case anymore with the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. OnePlus has thrown in every possible flagship traits into these two devices and is now moving up to compete with the top dogs of flagship phones.
The OnePlus 8 is the entry-level version in the latest lineups. Its prominent parts include a 6.55-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 865 chipset, a choice between 8GB RAM or 12GB RAM each at different storage memories, and a huge 4300mAh battery that can last you throughout the day. The OnePlus 8 is all the way flagship but it does lack a few specifications from its Pro big brother – it skips out on the telephoto lens and wireless charging capability. Unlike its predecessor, you will not get an unblemished full bezel-less display anymore. The selfie camera is back on the front screen and is now on the top left corner with a single punch-hole style 16MP camera. It packs a triple-camera setup that consists of a 48 wide lens, a 16MP ultrawide lens, and a gimmicky 2MP macro lens. The Warp Charger 30T that comes in the box during purchase of the Oneplus 8 is known to be able to charge 23% faster than its predecessor’s. With the warp charger, you can get from 0% battery to a full charge under one hour.
Unlike its little brother, the OnePlus 8 Pro is a befitting flagship mobile phone. It packs all the traits that a modern flagship mobile phone should have in one mobile. Its QHD “Fluid AMOLED” display with 120Hz screen refresh and HDR10+ support is the crowd puller among all the other top-tier features on these magnificent devices. The display that OnePlus slapped on this phone is so great that OnePlus claimed it will be unrivaled within the year. The screen is a 6.78-inch monster but, similar to the OnePlus 8, it will have a punch-hole styled single camera on the top left of the screen display. The rear will have a quad-camera setup that includes a 48MP wide lens, a 48MP ultrawide lens, an 8MP telephoto lens, and a brand new 5MP color filter lens. The wide camera sensor is a SONY IMX689 sensor that provides functions such as OIS ( Optical Image Stabilization ) and EIS ( Electronic Image Stabilization ) and enabling the phone to take 4K videos without any problems at all. The color filter lens is a new lens that brings in Instagram-like filters directly on the photo you are taking in the camera app. You will find a Snapdragon 865 chipset that is powered by a 4510mAh battery which is both chargeable through wired and wirelessly. Using the upgraded Warp Charger, you can get from 0% to a 50% charge within 25 minutes and 1% to 50% using wireless charging – the only setback is that to achieve this wireless charging speed, you will need to purchase an additional wireless charging mat. You also get to choose the amount of RAM you need – 8GB RAM and 12GB RAM variants are available for purchase but do remember that both come at a different price with the latter being even more expensive.
When the OnePlus 8 series was introduced, many of the brand’s price-conscious fans were getting uneasy. But OnePlus made a sharp u-turn to comfort its fan base by delivering the OnePlus Nord on 4th August 2020. The OnePlus Nord is the brand’s new phone that provides a almost-flagship level experience. OnePlus comes out with the tag line “pretty much everything you could ask for” for the Nord and it fits the phone so so well. You get a big screen, sustainable power and RAM, a hefty battery and so much more.
The OnePlus Nord has a 6.44-inch AMOLED display that provides a bright and colorful display. The screen is also a Full HD+ display that comes with a whopping 90Hz screen refresh rates. However, unlike the curved display on its predecessor, you will get a flat display on the Nord. The selfie camera design is a capsule-shaped design that is located on the top left of the screen and encapsulates a 32MP wide lens and an 8MP ultrawide shooter. The rear cameras, on the other hand, is what OnePlus advertised as “Stolen from the OnePlus 8” but with a slight difference in MP for the ultrawide lens. The rear camera array consists of a 48MP wide lens, an 8MP ultrawide lens, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. The battery is a 4115mAh capacity with fast charging but minus the wireless charging ability. What’s best is the Warp Charger that comes in the box is capable of getting your phone from 0% to 70% charged within 30 minutes. You can also choose from either an 8GB RAM variant or 12GB RAM. The Nord is definitely worth the purchase if you have a tight budget but in need of a good device.
