Xiaomi brands its mobile phones with monikers which decide where the phone is on the budget or mid-range or flagship spectrum. The monikers are Mi, Redmi Note, Pocophones, and Black Shark. The Mi devices are mostly skewed towards mid-ranges while the Redmi Note tends to be its famous budget phone and the Pocophones sitting somewhere in the middle between the high-end flagship and mid-range spectrum. The Black Shark series on the other hand is more of a gaming-centric device where Xiaomi packs some of the most powerful internals to cater to their fan base who loves mobile games.
Xiaomi is one of the earliest mobile phone distributors to come up with a “Gaming Phone”. The Black Shark series has always brought about specs and designs that wow-ed the gaming community and the latest Black Shark 3 is no exception. The new Black Shark 3 is big, as it should be. The screen is a 6.67-inch AMOLED 2K resolution display with a 90Hz screen refresh. There are no notches or punch holes on the screen where most mobile phones house their selfie camera instead, the Black Shark 3 has a slender bezel on the top of the screen, a trait that is carried down from the Black Shark series. Under the hood, you will find a Snapdragon 865 chipset and a choice of either 8GB RAM with 128GB Storage or 12GB RAM with 256GB storage. With a Snapdragon865 chipset, the Black Shark is 5G compatible which makes it future proof as well. Surprisingly, it has a set of good cameras even though the devices leans heavily towards the gaming aesthetic. On the back, you get a triple camera setup which consists of a 64MP wide cam, a 13MP ultrawide cam, and a 5MP depth cam while the selfie camera is a single 20MP shooter which all-in-all is a pretty good setup for a gaming device. The battery is a 4720mAh battery pack which is big enough for a two days use but since its a gaming device, heavy gamers would see the battery last them at most a day. There is a choice of using a magnetic pin charger which allows you to charge from the back of the phone where a magnetic pin receiver is located.
This spec on the new Mi Note 10 is not revolutionary but it is a force to be reckoned with especially for the price the new device is coming at. It has an AMOLED screen that sits at 6.47-inch with a curved edge which is similar to that of Samsung’s traits but the curve is more pronounced on the Mi Note 10 which makes the device more comfortable to hold. The main selling point of this phone is the 108MP sensor which Xiaomi even stamped on the back of the phone to remind you of the powerful cameras. The main camera is joined by four other cameras which makes it a five-camera setup that consists of a 108MP main shooter, a 12MP telephoto with 2X zoom for portrait shooting, another 5MP telephoto with 5x zoom, a 20MP ultrawide cam, and a 2MP macro camera. Despite beating other flagship competitors in terms of camera hardware and price, it does come short in terms of processing power. The Chipset on the Mi Note 10 is a Snapdragon 730G which is by no means a slow processor but considering the power needed to process the 108MP images the phone is expected to take, it seems a tad insufficient. This shortcoming will also cause a shorter battery life due to more power consumed to process the huge image. However, if you look at it as a mid-ranger, the device is definitely worth the price tag.
Everything on the Xiaomi Mi 10 screams FLAGSHIP, sadly that includes its price tag. It has a flagship design, a flagship chipset, a flagship screen, a good battery, 5G, a 30W fast charging, and wireless charging as well. The Mi 10 has a huge 6.67-inch Super AMOLED display which couples with a 90Hz screen refresh rate. The main camera on this phone is a 108MP main shooter, a 13MP ultrawide shooter, and a 2MP macro. Surprisingly, Xiaomi skipped out on the telephoto cam and rely fully on the digital zoom from the 108MP shooter. Xiaomi Mi 10 uses the Snapdragon 865 chipset which is 5G ready and provides full-fledged flagship power for the phone. The Mi 10 is packed with a 4780mAh battery which is HUGE even in 2020. You get a 30W fast charging and wireless charging too. The phone is definitely flagship range but at its price point, it faces huge competition from the OnePlus 8 series and the Huawei P40 series which has a better camera configuration compared to Mi 10.
Mobile phones under the Xiaomi Pocophone moniker used to be known as a budget device but the new Pocophone F2 Pro definitely isn’t. The screen is a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen which has an undisrupted display. The selfie camera features a 20MP shooter with a pop-up mechanism that results in the undisrupted display. The display, however, is stuck on 60Hz. On the back, you will find a washing machine style camera setup which consists of a quad-camera array. Xiaomi included a 64MP main shooter, a 13MP ultrawide camera, a 5MP macro shooter, and a 2MP depth sensor. The Pocophone F2 Pro uses a Snapdragon 865 chipset which is quite common is mobile phones in 2020 but the Pocophone does come with mid-rangers price tag which the other mobile brands hardly provide. The battery on the Pocophone is a 4700mAh battery which supports 30W fast charging and is able to get from 0% to full charge under an hour.
